Melt this in your Mouth: Buttermilk Pie

Planning your Thanksgiving menu this weekend?  Add this to it.  I'm serious.  It is DELICIOUS, BOMB, INSANELY GOOD, ETC, ETC.  It's easy too.  Even Me can do it, and it's a family winner, as you'll read below.  The post below is from last year, back when only Rhett and my friend Mindy read my blog, so I figured it would be okay to repost.  :)  Plus, if I'm being honest, I'm making it again this weekend for the Thanksgiving dinner Rhett and I host, and I wanted easy access to the recipe.  ;)  Have a wonderful weekend peeps!  XO -m-

I made this pie for the first time Thanksgiving 2010 and was flattered to the upth degree to have Rhett's sister-in-law request I make it again this year.  I was thrilled to oblige.  The best part- it is simple as pie (no pun intended) to make.

Buttermilk Pie
makes 2 pies
  • 2 sticks of butter, melted
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup Buttermilk (I bought LowFat Buttermilk)
  • 2 tsps vanilla
  • 1/2 cup flour, sifted
  • 2 premade frozen pie shells

Using a medium bowl, start at the top of the ingredient list and add ingredient by ingredient to the bowl while mixing with a hand mixer on low until it is well blended.  My mixture had a slightly foamy texture/appearance to it.  Pour mixture into pie shells.

Bake at 350 degrees.  When the top of the pie is golden brown, cover with foil.  Continue baking until when you slightly shake the pie pan, the center is firm and does not wiggle.  I honestly did not track how long it was in the oven.  Probably about an hour- I gave the pan a shake about every 15 minutes or so to check the firmness of the center.

It is the BEST PIE I have ever made.  It melts like butter in your mouth.  The sugary crispy top layer of the pie dissolves into the buttery creamy yumminess of the middle that is perfectly coated by the pie crust.

Comments from the Peanut Gallery

"O.M.Gawd!"
"Mmmm... this is, like, orgasmic!"
"Makaila, will you make this for Christmas too!"

The remains of the 2nd pie.  It was eaten straight from the pie pan.

I wish I had this recipe Wednesday... We had a luncheon for my husband's company and I took Peanut Butter Pie... which sounds amazing - and it is - but I guess it's not a "Thanksgiving Dessert" haha. This Buttermilk Pie looks SOOO super tasty and easy! I will definitely be trying this one out!!

This sounds amazing. If I could bake without burning down the house, I would definitely try this. Maybe I can find someone to bake it for me.
