Christmas Is Christened

Chuck's Produce.  Vancouver, Washington

Christmas Tree Day! Christmas Tree Day! We woke up with Christmas Tree on the mind.  Rhett listed the things we needed.  The tree stand, the chain saw, fuel for the chain saw, a blanket to protect the car from the tree, ropes to tie the tree to the top of the car. My mind started racing at 10 thoughts a second. How about you go get all that stuff, I'll stay here and clean the room, start the laundry, and "[insert the forever list of chores here]", and then when you get back, we'll go get the tree- sound good babe?  No, he said.  Come with me.  You do what I do, and I'll do what you do today.  Let's be together.  Thanks baby.  It's been the best day ever.  And we did it all together.

Picking the Tree

We loaded the back of the car with the needed supplies, piled in, and drove up to Vancouver, Washington to Chuck's Produce to visit their potting shed.  They had gorgeous, fresh Noble Fir trees.

This is the One!

Giving our tree some love.

Notable Mention:

don't you just love this display!

Let's take this baby Home!

Preparing the Tree

Rhett grabbed his glasses for safety and went to work.  He carefully trimmed a few branches off the bottom and then went in for a clean cut to remove a few inches so our tree could gulp a fresh drink in it's new stand.

One, Two, Three - Cut!

And there she was.  A natural beauty.

Ornamenting the Tree

I think a basic structure to the order and combination of the lighting, and placement of like pieces (I usually choose balls) creates a complimentry foundation for the ornaments.  This year I first strung the entire tree with small green lights, tucked in red sparkly garland, then strategically placed 16 glowing balls in the depths of the branches.  Green sparkly balls were then tucked in to fill empty spaces and balance the glowing balls, and I tipped a few branch ends with antique green and red balls.  THEN, it was Ornament time!

I just aged myself.  See that?
The original "Baby's First Christmas" my momma bought for me waayy back in 1980

Me and My Tree.

I know.  Do I look like a gleeful 5 year old in this pic or what.

2011 Christmas Christening

Last year we started the Official Tradition: The Christmas Christening.  We have a toast, eat some yumminess (Scrumptious Red Velvet cake this year), put on the last 3 ornaments (last year's special ornament from our exchange), and complete the tree by adding the topper.

Rhett treasures very little, but his saxophone has withstood all travels.  In honor of the saxophone, last year I found this beautiful little sax ornament at Hallmark for him.
