Crazy thing: I didn't even know what I had when I found it.
I was out thrifting around, looking for frames for my jewelry boards, and immediately fell in love with the frame. It was unique, had great detail, was banged up by time- which I say is character that you can't recreate- and I bought it.
My poor now-treasure sat up against my wall just like this a month (or two)..
and then one spacey day, I stared at it for a minute. And then two minutes.
and then examined it closer.
How Weird! Cool? What is this? Is this picture painted right onto the glass??
I turned the frame around...
and realized that dang. all that is~ IS painted glass.
so I threw it on a stand for a better look.
and put a light behind it..

and Voila. How flippin cool is THAT!

see the arrow pointing to the "hole" in the paint..

..this is the back of the glass, where the paint is scuffed.
Is this called something? How the heck was this done? Layered painting? Layered backwards painted painting? I have no clue. I could've researched it, but I haven't. *embarrassed* sorries.
Do you know?
Here's another look at the front and back,
side by side.. it's just a piece of glass..

I completely looove it. It's been on the same stand, on proud display since. And I give you...

Very cool! It is called reverse glass painting, cool history behind the method, been used since the Middle Ages, can back into "popularity" in the 90s.

I have no idea what you call it, but it's seriously awesome. I especially love it with the light behind it.
