A Carnation Surprise

Carnations.  Are you a lover?  I've never been a carnation fan, I love roses.  If asked, I probably would have even said I didn't like carnations.  But, when they were buy one get one half off at the supermarket, and I could get 20 carnations for the half the price of 12 roses, I swooped them up.  I got a filler too, to put with them, but when I started putting the stems, one by one in the vases, I just fell in love with the simple lines, they way the stoically leaned every which way; how each stem, leaf, and flower head was so pronounced.  Some of the leaves on the stems even seem to curl together, creating hearts.  It's amazing the difference of looking at bunch of carnations bunched together, and one single carnation standing alone.  It's official:  I'm a new found carnation lover.

I am undecided about carnations. I don't like them when they are dyed funky colors (a flower should not be a neon green or bright blue!) but I kinda like them because they have a bad rap. I mean, people are kind of mean to carnations, so that makes me kinda like them. Weird...but true!

And I love that you are a Portland girl! I lived in Portland my whole life until moving to Denver last year. I miss that city...:-)
