It's Tippy Tuesday!

Glorious Strawberries.
The non-organic $3.95 a carton variety
[organic at $5.95 a carton ~ What!?!]

I got home from the grocery store tonight a little sticker shocked by the $3.95 a carton strawberries.  Holy Toledo!  I know they're out of season and all, but dang!  I'm used to the 2 for $5 price and *SMH* at that itself.  Ouch.  So when I got home, I washed them up, and determined that I was not going to waste a precious bit of those strawberries and used a new technique to do so..

Today's Tippy Tuesday Tip:

Use a straw to hull your strawberries!  Save precious, pricey, edible parts of the berry, eliminate excess waste, and have a beautiful, perfectly hollowed berry to boot!

I snagged one of the straws from my Starbucks cup.
doesn't everyone have 3 of em on their kitchen counter??
if you don't, a non-Starbucks variety straw will work too.

line the straw over the center of the stem of the berry

push the straw straight down

a berry on a straw!

a perfectly hulled berry

See the difference?
the berry on the left, I simply cut the top off.  look at the waste of berry.  and see all that grimy cacka stuff left?
the berry on the right, I used the straw to hull it.  no berry waste, and no icky stuff left in the middle.

one topped off berry head, eight hulled berry heads. and no red.

i don't see any red parts in there!  No waste!

And for any of you ladies that drag your men along with you to the supermarket..

I highly recommend you find one featuring THIS:

a Lay's sports lounge center!
Rhett and Tristen kickin back, watching some football

Tristen tired of the football and went to the other side to catch some hockey.

And I went to find my strawberries.

And that my sweets, is Today's Tippy Tuesday Tip!
